Very scenic, probably one of the best spots in DC. Lots of history, and often the center of protests, political movements and activity. Near lots of fun and entertaining things to do.
Beautiful spot in Washington, great view of DC, very well kept, Illumination during the night is amazing!! You need a ticket to enter into the monument.
Go on a clear day. The views from just about every vantage point are amazing. Try to stay close to the elevator doors on the descent as you will get a good view of many of the memorial plaques inside.
The WM is closed until spring 2019. But you can still do a walking tour to see the monuments and museums around the National Mall. If you love history and our country then you won't be disappointed.
Original elevator took 20 minutes to top (versus 70-75 seconds today). Women were not allowed to top. Men were entertained via cheese/wine on ride up. Full site history here
